Frank is a regular at Mugby. He rides up to the walk-up window on his cherry red electric scooter, gets a cup of coffee, scoots over to the sidewalk and watches the traffic go by for an hour or so.
Frank gets coffee pretty often, and I work all the flipping time, so we've become friends. We'll chat while I make him his coffee, and then sit and chat for a little longer if no one else is in line. He shares with me some of the places he has traveled things he has done. Frank celebrated his 91st birthday this past week. I picked up a birthday card for him and all of the Mugby employees wrote little notes to him in it. He said he liked it.
My fellow employee, Winnie, also enjoys chatting with Frank. When he gets his coffee and is ready to take off she tells him to have a terrible day, and he just laughs. Frank has a pretty good sense of humor.
Frank knows I am off to Denver for a new adventure. Today he scooted up to the window, pulled an envelope out of the front basket on the scooter and hands it to me. He tells me I am supposed to use the money inside for lunch on the way out there. I open the envelope and the amount of money inside the card is more than enough to cover lunch.
I will miss my afternoon chats with Frank. As long as I remembered to talk a little louder, so he could hear me, we had some good conversations.
