Lasy Day

Today was my last shift at Mugby.  I took my name tag as a parting gift.

Some of our customers I will miss, others, not so much.

Frank

Frank is a regular at Mugby.  He rides up to the walk-up window on his cherry red electric scooter, gets a cup of coffee, scoots over to the sidewalk and watches the traffic go by for an hour or so.

Frank gets coffee pretty often, and I work all the flipping time, so we've become friends.  We'll chat while I make him his coffee, and then sit and chat for a little longer if no one else is in line.  He shares with me some of the places he has traveled things he has done.  Frank celebrated his 91st birthday this past week.  I picked up a birthday card for him and all of the Mugby employees wrote little notes to him in it.  He said he liked it.

My fellow employee, Winnie, also enjoys chatting with Frank.  When he gets his coffee and is ready to take off she tells him to have a terrible day, and he just laughs.  Frank has a pretty good sense of humor.

Frank knows I am off to Denver for a new adventure.  Today he scooted up to the window, pulled an envelope out of the front basket on the scooter and hands it to me.  He tells me I am supposed to use the money inside for lunch on the way out there.  I open the envelope and the amount of money inside the card is more than enough to cover lunch.

I will miss my afternoon chats with Frank.  As long as I remembered to talk a little louder, so he could hear me, we had some good conversations.

Middle Sister

I enjoyed growing up a middle child.  Middle children are special people, so I find it fitting that there is Middle Sister wine.  Many thanks to my big sister, Trisha, for the present celebrating my 24th year of life.

Trisha- Thanks again for the wine!  And congratulations, again, on the stellar new job!

Knitting

I picked up some knitting supplies today.  I'll keep you updated on my scarf progress.  Please don't look too closely at my knitting, it is definitely beginners work.

Luna

My roommate Christin has a bunny named Luna.  At first I was a tad terrified to hold luna, as she has claws.  We've since warmed up to each other and oftentimes bond as I feed her various greens.

Nice Person Story

Today while I was working, a man paid for his coffee with a one hundred dollar bill.  He told us to keep 5 bucks as a tip and then pay for all the people behind him until the money ran out.  A few other people hopped on the train and paid for the people behind them, too.  It was  a lot of fun to see people's reactions, and to be the bearer of good news.

To Mr. Anonymous:  Thanks for brightening my, and many others', morning.

New Purchase

I am awfully excited about my new backpacking bag.  It's a Granite Gear Escape A.C., whatever that means.  I will definitely make use of it while traveling with AmeriCorps NCCC.

I picked it up at a newer shop in downtown Winona, MN called Sole Sport.  The owner of the shop helped me find the best bag for what I needed.  Helpful guy.  He needed to special order a hip belt and they had it within two days.  Great place.

Garvin Heights

The hike up is definitely worth the view.  It's definitely getting colder in Winona.  Fall is here.

Mugby Junction

I stare at this beauty all day, every day.

It usually doesn't look this clean.

I think I'll miss it come the end of September.

The girls.

These beauties live right outside my front door.  Eva and Offa, they're good roommates.  Many tasty treats have been made thanks to their two a day egg contribution to the household.

Trying it out!

Alright, Leigh and K8, this one is for you!  Many thanks to Leigh for my blog title, and to Kate for the sub-title.

Now, what to blog about?
